The present work describes the exertion of the qualitative method "interview", based on the Critical Incidents Technique, to evaluate Safety Culture. For this reason there will be shown the relation between theoretical concepts of Safety Culture and Human Error. Based on this assumption the author analyzed qualitative data from an empirical study by means of the Qualitative Content Analysis Method and developed a theoretical model to interpret the results. The results of this work imply that the qualitative interview method generates a great depth of data which can be used to evaluate the prevalent Safety Culture. Further they show a great sensitivity of this method to current changes of the situation. This work identifies the exigence to combine qualitative and quantitative methods for evaluating social constructs. At last the author asserts that there is further need for research to validate the theoretical connections.
