The main section of the work is given over to individual studies of autobiographical texts by Jakob Wassermann, Werner Kraft, Gershom Scholem, Max Fürst, Ernst Toller, Ludwig Greve, Ruth Klüger and Georges-Arthur Goldschmidt.
