Professor Melanie Davies, MB ChB, MD, FRCP, is an Honorary Consultant Diabetologist in the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Leicester, UK and Professor of Diabetes Medicine at the University of Leicester. She trained in Sheffield and then completed her training in Cambridge, Ipswich and Leicester. Along with Professor Kamlesh Khunti, she leads the Diabetes Research Unit based at the Leicester Diabetes Centre. Professor Davies is one of the few Senior NIHR Investigators in the field of diabetes research. Professor Davies has been actively involved in the work of NICE, sitting on a number of their Guideline Development Groups and Quality Standards, advised the Government around the development of the Vascular Check Programme in England and has a given evidence to Parliamentary groups on diabetes. Her research interests are in screening and early detection of type 2 diabetes, prevention of type 2 diabetes, pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, and evaluating complex interventions including educational initiatives in diabetes and new therapies for diabetes.
