Vasyl Symonenko is one of the most significant figures of the "sixties" generation in Ukrainian literature.
Oles Gonchar called Symonenko "the master of young Ukrainian poetry", Vasyl Zakharchenko - "a poet from the mountainous Shevchenko valleys". Vasyl Stus said as follows: "...The youth rushed to the voice of Simonenko, the greatest of the sixties. Time was rushing just the same."
