In less than 2 years, Rod ran for and was elected to a seat on the town's Board of Aldermen. Four years later, Rod was encouraged to run for Mayor and became the Town's first African American Mayor. It was never an easy journey. There were successes, and there were challenges. This book describes how race permeates every aspect of life in the Deep South in both Black and white cultures. This book is Rod's account of his time in politics. In his own words.

At the current time, Mr. Nicholson lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and has a second career operating his own consulting firm and teaching. For more than 30 years, Mr. Nicholson had a distinguished career in state and federal government as a civil engineer/program manager. For more than 10 years, Rod served as a part-time Mayor of Terry, a small town along about 15 miles south of Jackson along Interstate Route 55. Roderick is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with a dual concentration in Transportation and Environmental Engineering.
