His book takes us on an incredible and true journey of dealing with cancer and heartbreak in his forties, where he is diagnosed on his 40th birthday. This set him off on a journey working and living in Papua New Guinea, Mali West Africa, Egypt and the Philippines, which would forever uproot and change his life. In many ways, for the better. While obstacles thrown at us in life can be stressful and overwhelming, they can also define our choices for the better. The most inspiring stories are ones that are true, and Robert's tale is nothing short of unique and incredible.

I was born in Vancouver Canada and my parents moved to Australia when I was seven. My parents were not rich and did the best they could. I had a very happy upbringing with living memories that will last forever. Life took a turn at 40 when I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. I survived but lost my mother at this time. My marriage failed but always there for my children.
With my children growing up, I started working as an ex-pat in Papua New Guinea, Mali West Africa and Egypt. I am diagnosed with bowel cancer at 61 and had emergency surgery in Egypt but again survive.
I now live a simple but happy life in the Philippines. Why I survived I am not sure but ask the question many times but believe it is God's will.
I decided to write Survival and an Unexpected Life to help others from my life experience. The story was hard to write as it is written exactly how it was experienced but I have included humorous times.
