Surgery in Systemic Autoimmune Disease, Volume 15, describes the state-of-the-art of the use of surgery in treating the most common systemic autoimmune diseases (SADS). The volume consists of an introductory chapter concerning the impact of surgery on SADs, follow by eight chapters describing the use of surgery in the treatment of specific diseases in various areas (cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, neurology. etc.) and the possible difficulties and complications. Ignazio Francesco Masala received his degree in Medicine in 1999 from University of Cagliari and accreditation in Ortopedic surgery in 2004. He is currently Senior Consultant in Trauma and Ortopedic Unit at University of Cagliari, Italy.His clinical and research interest lies in acute and chronic pain with particular focus on the investigation and management of pain in orthopedic field.
Daniel Aletaha is a consultant rheumatologist at the Medical University of Vienna and a renowned scientist in outcomes research, clinical trials, and translational research in rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory rheumatic diseases. He received academic degrees from the Medical University in Vienna, Duke University in North Carolina, and Danube University Krems. Daniel has spent more than two years at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Daniel Aletaha is a highly cited author of the field of rheumatology and author of more than 200 publications. He is also associate editor of Arthritis and Rheumatology and RMD Open, and editorial board member of a number of rheumatology specialty journals.
Marcus Lee graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the
Xenofon Baraliakos is a Senior Consultant and scientific coordinator at the Rheumazentrum Ruhrgebiet Herne and Associate Professor for Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany.
He studied Human Medicine at the universities of Magdeburg and Berlin, Germany. Dr. Baraliakos received his official Board Degree in orthopaedic surgery and in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. His research interests include clinical and academic research in the field of spondyloarthritides, with special emphasis on imaging outcomes and treatment of the disease.
