The objective of this work is to understand how POWER RELATIONSHIPS ARE CONSTRUCTED IN CURRENT SOCIETY. Castells starts from affirming that power relations are the founding element on which society is structured and organized.
For Castells, UNDERSTANDING THE WAY IN WHICH POWER RELATIONSHIPS ARE STRUCTURED, ALLOWS IN TURN TO UNDERSTAND THE OPERATION OF THE COMPANY.
For the author, power relations are not presented in a single way, but rather they adopt different modalities, and the dominant power relations are always faced with COUNTERPOWERS, or RESISTANCES.
The so-called SOCIAL CHANGE is the relationship that is established between the various forms of domination and the resistances faced by these attempts at domination. In this sense, COMMUNICATION and INFORMATION are identified as the "fundamental" sources where relations of power and resistance are expressed.
