The archipelago of the Îles Chausey, with the highhest tides in Europe, lies to the north of the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel (Manche, Normandy, France). The Grande Île, the only island inhabited by around thirty islanders, lies just over 15 km of Granville. Once a haven for freebooters and a huge reservoir of granit for the ramparts of Saint-Malo, the Chausey archipelago has become a popular destination for nature lovers in the summer months. Marin-Marie from Mayenne, navigator and official painter to the Navy from december 1935), considered Chausey his home port ; in his house with blue shutters, nicknamed the captain's house, Marin-Marie had a studio facing the Sound.
