The dory is a wooden boat created in the 19 th by a Canadian architect who wanted to leave a beach easily. It is propelled with oars and can be rigged. The dory is historically know as fishing boat on the banks of Newfoundland until the early XXth century, the fishing schooners carrying each a dozen dories stacked on their decks, many sailors from the valley of Rance have practiced this fishery. Today this sail and oar boat is more than ever present in Rance with a summer festival " De cale en cale ", a convivial gathering of a doris flotilla rides the Rance from beach to beach on both sides of this magnificent coastal river.
