This volume explains the concept and entity of faith-based, particularly Catholic, universities in two essays and explains their position in terms of both the State's and the Church's regulatory network. Rüfner addresses the relationship between faith-based universities and state-run universities, while the contribution by Rhode focuses on canon law, more specifically the canon law of the Catholic Church.Both contributions are based on lectures conducted by the authors in March 2010 at a symposium held in honor of Professor Dr. Manfred Baldus, Presiding Judge of the Regional Court, renowned canon-law expert and longstanding publisher of the collection of decisions "KirchE".
