This 4th edition has been revised with updated information and new material, including a new Foreword and Introduction; new translations of Koichi Tohei Sensei's "Thirteen Rules for Instructors" and "The Living Principles"; guidance for applying kaisho, gyosho, and sosho training to techniques; teachings on connecting with one's partner; detailed kyu and dan testing procedures for examiners, as well as the rank requirements from 5th kyu through 5th dan; and a new teaching on "The Meaning of Aikido."

Curtis Sensei's first encounter with Aikido was in 1968, with then student of Koichi Tohei Sensei, Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei, in New York City. After attending a three-year meditation retreat, Sensei began training with his teachers Koichi Tohei Sensei (Japan) and Shinichi Suzuki Sensei (Maui) in 1974. Curtis Sensei served as Suzuki Sensei's otomo for many years, accompanying him as he traveled to attend and teach seminars in Japan, the United States, South America, and Europe.
Curtis Sensei now teaches regularly at Maui Ki-Aikido, and continues to travel and teach Aikido and Ki Principles in Europe, Russia, the United States, and throughout Hawaii. In 2004, Curtis Sensei was appointed as the official Ki Society representative for the Ki Society groups training in Europe, and in 2018 the Europe Ki Federation was established, bringing all Ki Society dojo in Europe together as one.
He has authored another book on Aikido, addressing the practice of Ki-Aikido in daily life, called "Letting Go".
