The French artist of the "Paris School", Chaim Soutine (1893 - 1943) was born into a large Jewish family in the Belarusian town of Smilovichi.
Painting becomes his calling, overcoming many obstacles, he makes his way to Paris, where, begging and sometimes starving, he studies art. The Louvre became his real university.
Soutine's works are in the best museums in the world.
