Maldonado is Director of Research for the Livelihoods Knowledge Exchange Network (LiKEN), Lecturer in the Environmental Studies Program at the University of California-Santa Barbara, USA, works with the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals, and co-facilitates Rising Voices: Collaborative Science with Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Solutions.
