I belong to a civic group that brings disadvantaged youth to the Phoenix Zoo. Most of the youngsters have never visited a zoo before. When the tram makes the first turn and the children see the animals for the first time, their squeals and cheers of excitement bring me great joy. I want to bring that joyous first look to more people and further help them understand animals as complex beings just like you and me. Almost everybody has seen a giraffe, for example, but they have not had the opportunity to get to know that giraffe and feel a connection with it.
I believe that if I can help more people actually see wildlife as they live and learn more about the animals, then more people will appreciate them and love them as I do, body and soul.

Autoren-Porträt von Jeff Williams
Jeff Williams has lived in Phoenix, and Flagstaff Arizona for the past several decades, exploring the natural beauty of the Southwest. He is a graduate of Northern Arizona University, and the University of Phoenix, and has worked in banking and other areas of finance for most of his adult life. He discovered his love for photography back in 2002 with a large format camera. He was fortunate to meet several very talented photographers who were happy to share their knowledge with him. In 2010, he was invited on a wildlife photography workshop with the very talented Kathleen Reeder. When he first looked in to the eyes of a precious soul he was photographing, he was hooked, and shifted primarily to wildlife photography. Jeff has travelled much of the world for his photography and he has become an award-winning photographer. He spent part of a summer in South Africa staying in a thatched roof hut to get close to and photograph the wildlife in their natural habitat. He has contributed photographs and articles on wildlife to magazines and has spoken to groups about wildlife photography.
