A study done to help limiting the increased morbidity, mortality and cost of health care services resulted from increased treatment failure to the most widely used antimicrobial classes due to the emergence of ESBL-producing enterobacterial E. coli members in the hospital setting as nosocomial pathogens through: 1) Achieving resistance profile for E. coli clinical isolates from our local area in Tanta University hospitals against commonly prescribed antibiotics. 2) Identifying the prevalence of multidrug resistant strains and the possible role of ESBL in E. coli resistance to antibiotics. 3) Plasmid profiling for all isolates to know the role and nature of plasmid as an antibiotic resistance marker in ESBLs.
