The 13th Edition was Highly Commended in the 2014 BMA Book Awards: "This book manages to explain some difficult concepts with real clarity. It is clear, concise and well-illustrated. I am sure that medical, nursing and paramedic students will find it accessible and useful to their studies. As a GP I have enjoyed reading this book as a refresher to my clinical examination skills- I have also gained some new knowledge from this book. There are quite a few examination books on the market so there is a lot of competition. I do feel that this book is one of the best as it is so well-written and engaging. I think it does stand out in its class and I would have no hesitation in recommending it over other similar books.
One of the real 'plus points' for this book is the clarity of writing. I was surprised to read something I had not understood before described so well that immediately the 'penny dropped'. The authors have a real skill for explaining things. Everything is broken down into small chunks so it is easy to dip in and out of the book or read it continuously. Although it is easy to understand this book is not in any way patronising or over simplistic. I am impressed with the quality of this book and the breadth of coverage. I think it would be excellent value for money as it would take someone through their undergraduate studies and well beyond.
Without a doubt the book's main strength is its clarity both in the descriptive text and quality of the illustrations. It is an extremely clear and comprehensive book on clinical examination. It is packed with relevant helpful illustrations and photos. This is an excellent core text for medical students and beyond ."
