Stephen Clarke, geboren 1958, schrieb, am Anfang nur aus Spass, seine fast wahren Abenteuer als Marketingexperte französischer Tee-Salons in Paris auf und druckte das Buch zweihundert Mal für Freunde. Nach einer Lesung wurde seine Parodie ein Must-have und war in ganz Paris und London in aller Munde. Inzwischen wurde der Überraschungsbestseller in siebzehn Länder verkauft. Clarke lebt weiterhin in Paris mit seiner französischen Verlobten und deren beeindruckender Dessous-Kollektion. Nach »Ein Engländer in Paris« erscheint im November 2006 auf deutsch die zu 64,3 Prozent wahre Geschichte »Ich bin ein Pariser«, die in England »Harry Potter« vom ersten Platz der Bestsellerliste verdrängte und in der Clarke erzählt, was sein Alter Ego sonst noch erlebt hat.
