Igor Safonov, MD, studied medicine at the State Medical University, Lugansk, Ukraine, graduating in 1983. After initially specializing in X-ray diagnostics and radiology and working in an oncological hospital, he subsequently specialized in dermatology. From 1999 to 2002 Dr. Safonov worked at a private institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology in Berlin, and since 2002 he has been a member of Dr. Bogolomets' Institute of Dermatology and Cosmetology in Kiev. Dr. Safonov is a specialist in the treatment and correction of scars. He has previously published on various topics in the field, including the treatment of keloid and hypertrophic scars, the use of early microdermabrasion, and the correction of scars due to burns.
