In spite of frequent attempts by utilitarians,retributivists and so called \"mixed solution\" advocates(particularly during the twentieth century) the problem ofjustifying punishment remains. This book aims to redress thisshortcoming by turning to the German thinkers Kant and Hegel andtheir idealism (rather than simply their retributivism) to fashionpunishment\'s justification. In the case of Kant this is achievedby developing his construction of justice, while for Hegel itinvolves taking seriously his theory of recognition and aspects ofhis logic. In applying ideas from this tradition to a contemporaryproblem, this book will appeal to both those interested in Kant andHegel scholarship and its recent resurgence, as well as to studentsof jurisprudence.

Jane Johnson, MSc, ist Co-Direktorin der London Massage Company. Als Physiotherapeutin und Sportmasseurin führt sie seit vielen Jahren Haltungsanalysen durch. Jane Johnson unterrichtet Haltungsanalyse im Rahmen berufsbegleitender Fortbildungsmassnahmen für die Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). Dadurch bekam sie Kontakt zu Tausenden von Therapeuten der verschiedensten Therapierichtungen, die ihre eigene Arbeit beeinflussten. Sie moderiert zudem regelmässig die jährlich stattfindende Complementary and Massage Expo (CAM) in Grossbritannien. Jane Johnson ist Vollmitglied der Chartered Society of Physiotherapists und registriert beim Health Professions Council. Als Mitglied des Institute of Anatomical Sciences ist sie sehr an der Anatomie des Bewegungsapparates und einer verbesserten Ausbildung auf diesem Gebiet interessiert. Auch beschäftigt sie sich intensiv mit dem Zusammenhang von Haltung und Emotionen.
