This book by Andreas Moritz provides scientific evidence that sunlight is essential for good health, and that a lack of sun exposure can be held responsible for many of today's diseases. Most people now believe that the sun is the main culprit for causing skin cancer, certain cataracts leading to blindness, and aging. Only those who take the risk of exposing themselves to the sunlight, find that the sun makes them feel and look better, provided they don't use sunscreens or burn their skin.
The UV-rays in sunlight actually stimulate the thyroid gland to increase hormone production, which in turn increases the body's basal metabolic rate. This assists both in weight loss and improved muscle development. It has been known for several decades that those living mostly in the outdoors, at high altitudes, or near the equator, have the lowest incidence of skin cancers.
In addition, studies revealed that exposing patients to controlled amounts of sunlight dramatically lowered elevated blood pressure (up to 40 mm Hg drop), decreased cholesterol in the blood stream, lowered abnormally high blood sugars among diabetics, and increased the number of white blood cells which we need to help resist disease. Patients suffering from gout, rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, arteriosclerosis, anemia, cystitis, eczema, acne, psoriasis, herpes, lupus, sciatica, kidney problems, asthma, as well as burns, have all shown to receive great benefit from the healing rays of the sun.
Moritz was born in Stuttgart, Germany. He began his career in Europe as an iridologist with special focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness. He has also specialized in using fine art as a healing modality. Much of his life's work has been dedicated to understanding and treating the root causes of illness, and helping the body to naturally heal itself.
In the mid-1990s, he began publishing self-help books on alternative medicine and mind/body/spirit integration.
From the age of six, Moritz experienced a number of severe illnesses such as juvenile arthritis, arrhythmia, anemia, abnormally low blood pressure, frequent fainting and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Although his main fields of interest were architecture, music and athletics, most of his time was spent in trying to understand the causes of his own illnesses. As an adolescent, Moritz began studying diet, nutrition and various approaches to natural healing and well-being.
In 1970, Moritz began to practice meditation and Yoga to treat low blood pressure. By age 19, he had alleviated his symptoms through his practice.
After completing his iridology training under his uncle, Dr. Harry Kirchofer, a leading iridology physician and naturopath in Germany, in 1980 Moritz proceeded to study and perform research on mind/body medicine at Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in Switzerland.
