Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Law - European and International Law, Intellectual Properties, grade: 65%, University of Sussex (School of Law, Politics and Sociology), course: International Law, language: English, abstract: The five East African countries Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda have over the past one and a half decades undertaken a renewed attempt to integrate their economies in order to preserve peace and facilitate economic growth and prosperity in the region. A milestone in this attempt has been the introduction of the EAC Common Market. This dissertation looks into the EAC's genesis and its current situation before dealing with the Common Market in more detail. To better illustrate the problems East Africa faces when it comes to the implementation of regional treaties, particular attention will be paid to the free movement of goods and services and the difference between theory and practice.
