Colouring agent becomes an integral part of human life and it facilitate towards to human every day for enhancement of their lifestyle. Hence the aim of present research work was isolation, identification of pigment producing microorganism and characterisation of the extracting pigment. However now days' synthetic colour has been widely used in various industries including food, textile, cosmetic and pharmaceutical etc. As it's shows toxicity problem caused by synthetic colours. Therefore, the attempt of the present work was overcome to this problem, bacterial pigments as natural sources were selected. A total of 10 soil samples were selected from different locations and inoculated on Nutrient agar medium. Pigment producing bacteria screened for antibacterial and antifungal activity and those were not shown any activity selected for further applications. Serretia spp., Erythrobacter spp. micrococcus and Azorhizobium spp. isolated and their pigments extracted in acidified ethanol.Pigments of Serretia and Erythrobacter were used for dying the cloth and it can hold a promising potential to meet present day challenge. Keyword: - Soil sample, Azorhizobium, Erythrobacter, Serratia.
