Produktinformationen zu „Greek Jewish Texts from the Cairo Geniza “
This is the first collected edition of medieval texts written in a mixture of Hebrew and Greek, recovered from the Cairo Genizah.
They date most probably from the 10th to the 12th century, and they shed an invaluable light on the life and culture of the Greek-speaking Jews in the Middle Ages.
The contents range from personal documents (marriage deed, private letters), through prayer books, (including four different versions of the Passover Hagadah), to biblical exegesis and glossaries of difficult words in the Bible and Mishnah.
Most of the texts were previously unpublished. They are presented in a documentary edition, with translation, photographs and notes.
