Klappentext zu „Beyond Europe “
The contributions presented in this issue of "Dhau" focus on far-reaching repercussions the arguable "primal catastrophe" of the 20th century had on societies and polities of the Global South. It's inhabitants were mostly drawn into this war on the grounds of colonial power relations or otherwise patronizing conditions. It is contended that even if increased attention has been paid to the global implications of the First World War during the last four years, research perspectives of mainstream social cum military studies are still largely confined to the belligerent powers in Europe and North America. Relevant historical work which has been accomplished in the wider field of Area Studies allows for bridging this gap and should therefore receive enhanced attention, all the more as these contributions not only deal with experiences and perceptions of both subordinated military personnel and civil society actors from the world regions involved, but also reveal how this agency is embedded in and feeds into overarching cognitive, political and social processes.
