Nathan Söderblom is generally known for his scholarly achievements as a historian of religion and as an ecumenical churchman. However, he also accomplished a lot for theology and especially for the interpretation of Luther. This volume presents the most important of his treatises on Luther: Humour and melancholy and other studies on Luther. The characteristic quality of his studies is the innovative approach to focus on Luther's piety and not on his doctrine. Humour and melancholy are defined as basic attitudes towards life.
