Charles Taylor ist emeritierter Professor für Philosophie an der McGill University in Montreal und einer der einflussreichsten Sozialphilosophen der Gegenwart. Geboren 1931 in Kanada, studierte er an der McGill University und an der Universität Oxford, an der er 1961 seinen Ph.D. erwarb. Danach kehrte er nach Montreal zurück, wo er bis zu seiner Emeritierung politische Philosophie lehrte.
